Population

Perth is the capital of Western Australia which is the fastest growing state in Australia. With a population of 1.5 million it is home to three-quarters of the state's residents.

Geography

Perth is located in the south west of Australia between the Indian Ocean and the Darling Range. The central business district and suburbs of Perth are situated on the Swan River.

Housing

Perth has a booming property market which is partly due to the number of new migrants moving to the area. Perth is the second most expensive city behind Sydney in terms of house prices (August 2006).

Economy

Perth has a booming economy and with just 10% of the country’s population, Western Australia contributes nearly one third of the national export earnings and has the lowest unemployment record in the country. Local Transport

Transperth operates Perth's public transport network, which is comprised of buses, ferries and trains. It is a good value way to get around the city and there is free transport in the central area.
